Since the introduction of music streaming services, people have access to a plethora of artists and songs, all right at their fingertips. The amount of selection can be overwhelming, making it challenging to manage all of your favorite songs or organize them into a playlist. For our latest On Rotation interview, we phone up park skateboarder Arianna Carmona to learn who some of her favorite artists are, how she organizes tracks, and how she finds new music.

What kind of music do you listen to?
I’m kind of all over the place; I’ll usually listen to anything. I like rock music, hip-hop, rap, and pop. I’ll listen to pretty much anything but country. Post Malone and Blink 182 are my two top favorites. I listen to those two a lot.

Any new artists that you are currently listening to?
I don’t know if this artist is new, but they’re new to me his name is Ryan Caraveo. He’s kind of in the hip-hop rap area, but it’s a little bit slower. He has a couple of good songs; I just found him a few weeks ago.

How do you organize all your music?
I’m not the best at making playlists I usually shuffle all my songs and wait until I find something that I like.

There’s just so much music now with streaming services. It’s like, where do you start?
Yeah, there’s just so much to put together. I’ve tried to make a playlist, but I feel like I forget what songs I have so I’ll be trying to make a playlist and then, later on, I’ll be like ‘oh I don’t have this song in it.’ There’s so much effort into making sure all the songs I like into one playlist.

How are you finding new artists these days?
I usually go on Apple Music radio and shuffle play through the different curated playlist they have. Like they have a Post Malone radio, and if I hear something that I like, then I’ll add it.

Lately, my music influence has been from TikTok (laughs). All those songs are always really good catchy songs, so like my recent downloads are mostly songs from TikTok. Then either songs that my friends or boyfriend suggest to me.

What type of videos do you like watching on TikTok?
Usually, the most popular songs are always on the ‘For You’ page, so for the most part, I’ll scroll down the page and hear a song that I like, and someone is dancing to or using for a video. Usually, I hear a lot of the same songs quite a few times, so I’ll get familiar with it and be like ‘oh I like that song’.

People put a lot of thought and effort into their TikTok videos.
Yeah, I always laugh, and the dancing videos are OK. It gets kind of repetitive when I see the same dance repeatedly, but I don’t entirely mind them because I use to be a dancer when I was younger, so I think it’s interesting. The acting [videos] are kind of odd, like people get a little too into it just for TikTok like their auditions for a movie or something.

Do you ever post anything on TikTok?
No (laughs) I want to, but I don’t know what to do. I was thinking about posting some skate clips on there and then some of the dances me and my sister always want to learn, but I don’t know if I would want to post myself dancing on there at the same time. The dances seem fun to learn, but at the same time, I don’t know if I would post myself dancing on there (laughing).

What type of music was being played around the house growing up?
My grandma would listen to a lot of traditional Hispanic music like mariachi bands and stuff like that. I heard a lot of that or like Salina was played a lot, which I like too. I wouldn’t skate to Selena. but maybe something like Bidi Bidi Bom Bom (laughs) a real classic song. So yeah, my grandma would play that, and my sister, when we were growing up went through an awkward scene phase that everyone went through so my sister would play like Slipknot around the house (laughs). Then I feel like my mom would play whatever.

From Spanish music to alternative metal. Nice!
Yeah, and when I was a kid too, my aunt had all the Blink 182, Green Day, and All American Rejects CDs so she would play those in the car. That’s one of my biggest influences, too, is listening to all those guys. I remember she would come to pick us up to go skate, and she had those CD cases that everyone would have and carried a bunch of CDs, and I would look through that and be like ‘oh I want to listen to this Green Day CD or Blink 182 CD’.

Do you like attending live shows?
I’ve been to a few. I’ve seen Blink 182 like three times, I think, and been to a Blackbear and Lil Xan concert, and an All Time Low show one time with my friend. Also, I think its K-Rock that does the Jingle Ball. I’ve been to that one year that’s kind of like the mixture of everyone.

You’ve seen Blink 182 three times?
Yeah, I think the first time that I saw them was at X Games in Austin they were doing the concert there. I think they played at Jingle Ball and then I saw them again when it was just a Blink 182 concert. They’re so good to see live. Oh! And I’ve seen Green Day and Catfish and the Bottlemen, that was somewhere in LA.
