Heavy snow flurries on Friday pushed the 2024 Dew Tour Women’s Ski Superpipe to Sunday, and ultimately took place under clear skies. Returned from hiatus to help us celebrate 20 years of Dew Tour at Copper, the women of ski Superpipe enjoyed a fast, perfectly groomed pipe.

The last time we saw women’s ski superpipe was in 2021 and the reigning champ, Eileen Gu, returned to defend her title. Eileen was the youngest (and statistically most dominant) rider in the field, but never considered herself a “lock” to win. What’s more is that she won Streetstyle the night before. Eileen was the only athlete at Dew Tour 2024 to ski in multiple disciplines.

“I go into every contest with the desire to win but never the expectation. I’d never say that I am a lock for any kind of medal,” said Eileen following an evening practice. “With that said; I love competing, I love winning, and I love being on the podium.”

The format allowed each of the five athletes three runs with only their best run ranking them at the end. Judges scored based on overall impression on a scale of 1-100.

Proof of the perfect conditions in the pipe, right out the gate we saw full pulls from every skier. The stand out was Eileen, scoring a 96.33, but Zoe Atkin was on her heels with a 94.00. The two nearly matched opening scores, and they each clocked the highest air on the U.S. Army Hype Meter at 12 feet, three inches. Zoe’s first hit delivered her greatest amplitude and for Eileen it was the last hit.

Zoe’s switch left and right 720s were also highlights. Outside of those two, Amy Fraser threw the standout trick of the entire event with a switch 900. Svea Irving also impressed the judges with her first hit left alley-oop 540 Japan.

Then, in Run 2, Eileen upped the ante again to score 97.66—a career best for her and unbeatable on the day.

“I want to highlight my high score. That’s my career high at 97.66, so that’s really special for me,” responded Eileen, with both of her trophies from the weekend gripped. “Overall really proud, really happy, and only up from here.”

Eileen’s best run was her second and it went as follows: Right cork 900 Buick, Left cork 900 Japan, right 720 lead tail, switch 720 Japan, left alley-oop flatspin 540 mute, to finish with a rightside alley-oop flatspin 540 safety.

“The Streetstyle contest was so fun for me,” said Eileen when asked what made this weekend special for her. “I’ve always just loved rails… but I’ve been competing in a lot of halfpipe this year. So, I’ve been getting back into it. Hiking the rails, getting back to the core of sport was really inspiring and fun.”

Be it a halfpipe, rail garden or massive jump, Eileen continues to dominate the space.
