The 2022 Unlock The Spot events are underway, with the first of five popping off at MTN DEW rider Chris Colbourn aka Cookie’s hometown in Burlington, Vermont. As part of MTN DEW’s #skateboardingisunstoppable campaign, the grassroots event brought together Burlington’s tight-knit community to skate the otherwise off-limits ledge behind Hula Lakeside.

The 14-acre technology-driven coworking campus at Hula hides a pristine ledge that’s approximately 50 feet and sits just steps away from the shore of Lake Champlain. Already waxed up from previous poached missions, the medium-tall plinth required no preparation or modifications for skateboarders to get to work.

Skateboarding locals arrived early to the open skate jam at 10:00 am, eager to warm up and get their best tricks dialed before the cash-for-tricks contest. Once Cookie hopped on the mic after getting a few lines and hits himself on the ledge, the cash for tricks battle was on! Skateboarders charged the sidewalk from both directions having to dodge each other from head-on collisions. In good spirit, all skaters watched out for each other sharing the narrow sidewalk giving everyone an equal chance to pocket some cash.

MTN DEW’s presents were on site as they set up activations for everyone to enjoy that included a photo booth where fans could get their snap taken with a whiteboard displaying the skateboarding is unstoppable phrase and what it means to them. DJay Baron was on the ones and twos, keeping the vibe alive with live mixes and unique cuts that featured classic 90s hip-hop hits, energetic rock, and even some reggae that fit the mood for the sunny summer day. Also in the mix were influencers Lamont Holt and Anthony Ferraro hanging out with the local crowd and getting in a few scrapes on the ledge themselves.

The Unlock The Spot series continues with the second location coming to El Segundo, California, this Sunday, July 10, with MTN DEW team rider Theotis Beasley. If you’re in the area, come down to Recreation Park, where we’ll be unlocking the double set for an open skate jam, photo opportunities, product sampling, and of course, your chance to go home with some cash in hand.
