How do you celebrate 20 years of Dew Tour? You throw a party at the mountain with a fire DJ set. So, what did we do? We enlisted the self-proclaimed “dons of Après house music,” local duo of Don Fuego to kick us off correct.
The weekend officially opened to the public with the Dew Tour Experience on Friday from 11am-4pm local time to connect fans with everything from athlete signings to raffle prizes and even freebees. But as soon as the Experience ended, the DJ set began.
“It was white-out at first, but then it seemed like all the good energy brought the sun out for the last bit,” said Corey Van Aken of Don Fuego. We made a special intro that specifically talked about Copper Mountain to start things off. Then, we had a lot of original music that was unreleased, and we saved the singing anthems to very end—which is also original music that is not out yet.”
Regardless of the white-out, as soon as Don Fuego took to the stage the crowd began to form. From as far away as the cafeteria people were bouncing to the beat. On the snow, though, was a crowd of pumping arms and wide smiles beneath sunglasses and goggles alike.
“We wanted to make it special for locals and everybody who came out,” said Mahdi Torabinejad, the second member and vocals in the duo. “We also wanted to make it special for one of our homies who is a ski patroller here—it’s his birthday. Arthur Elmer is the man!”
Locals to the area, Don Fuego lives in Silverthorne, CO and have been blowing up the Après house music scene only as of late. The group officially launched their music into the world December 1, 2023. Since then they have already made a strong name for themselves in Summit County and beyond the greater Denver area.
The snowfall and dancing to Don Fuego was the perfect preamble to the Dew Tour 2024 weekend. Women’s Snowboard Streetstyle practice was underway while the music was pumping, and directly to follow the contest began. But not before a proper send off of vocals and mix plus a personal send off from both members to the crowd.
In response to their overall impression following their set, Don Fuego said it was a 10 out of a 10.
