Banasiewicz Wins Dickies OQ Award Following Dirt Domination

Brett “Mad Dog” Banasiewicz, the 15-year-old BMX wunderkind, has been named the winner of the Dickies Open Qualifier Award following his first ever Dew Tour victory this past weekend.

Banasiewicz Wins Dickies OQ Award Following Dirt Domination

A standout on the park course last year, Banasiewicz added BMX dirt to his resume for the 2010 season, advancing out of the open qualifying round of competition before claiming the top spot in both the prelims and the finals to become the youngest event winner in the Dew Tour’s six-year history.

The young gun beat out two-time Dew Cup winner Ryan Nyquist as well as dirt heavy-hitters Luke Parslow, TJ Ellis and Brandon Dosch in just his first BMX dirt final. Up against tough competition from more than 15 other athletes for the Dickies OQ Award, Banasiewicz’s win allowed him to bypass five other dirt riders alone for the honor.

Knowing how difficult it is for an athlete to earn their way onto the Dew Tour, Dickies created the OQ Award to honor the Open Qualifier who advanced the furthest over the course of the Dew Tour’s Nike 6.0 BMX Open.

With the win, Banasiewicz picks up a cool $1,500 and the opportunity to be the face of Dickies. Congrats Mad Dog!
