This spring, Brolin Mawejje was diagnosed with a potentially deadly heart condition called arrhythmia. The condition, which makes the heartbeat erratically, was discovered right before a competition in Kazakhstan. Mawejje was just 15 points away from opening an Olympic quota spot for his home country of Uganda for the 2018 PyeongChang Games. It would have made him the first African to compete in the Winter Olympics. The condition destroyed everything he had worked hard for. Here’s how he was forced to adjust to his new reality and refocus for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
