Top 10 Photos from Photographer Matt Sklar at Dew Tour Copper 2020

Words: Matt Sklar
Shooting Dew Tour back in 2012 was my first time breaking into the “big leagues,” getting the chance to shoot with the world’s best skiers. With many photoshoots between then and now, I still never made it back to Dew Tour until this year. It was so much fun to be back.

The modified superpipe gave something different for both the riders and us photographer – it was a treat to watch the creativity unfold on both sides!

Shooting a contest in Colorado, you’re almost certain to get a little bit of every type of weather, and this year at Dew Tour certainly provided that – with everything from sunshine to some of the deepest powder I’ve ever skied. The skiers fought hard through the weather to put down there best runs, and I did my best to capture it, and we all enjoyed the powder.

Slopestyle is all about how you can link together features – I took that inspiration and tried to do the same with this shot of Alex Hall.

The women showed up strong in the pipe, too. With a clean grab from Brita Sigourney and a classic wide-angle pipe shot
Colby Stevenson’s great style makes a photographer’s job easy.
It wasn’t all about snow, as the sun made a couple of very welcome appearances throughout the week. Skier: Fabian Bosch
Us photographers often try to isolate a feature or trick, sometimes it’s nice to back up and get the full context of a slopestyle rail run. Skier: Ferdinand Dahl
I like this one because of the way it shows just how hard it was snowing during the team challenge. It was probably snowing 2-3” per hour. Skier: Lukas Mullauer
All of that snow made for some unreal powder riding. Skier: Maggie Voisin
The weather broke for the final runs of men’s modified pipe, but this moody shot from warm-ups is my favorite from the event – I love the contrast in the Dew Tour-green dye, and the clean grab. Skier: Nico Poerteous
While action shots are fun, sometimes it’s the other moments that stand out. Here Zoe Atkin reacts to landing on her first Dew Tour podium – and you can feel the stoke from here.
