Frenchman Kevin Rolland won the 2009 FIS World Halfpipe Championships in Japan and crushed the competition throughout the FIS season. He claimed the top spot in the World Cup halfpipe standings after winning World Cup contests in both the US and France in the same year.
At only 20 years old, the Frenchman also made his mark in superpipe at the 2008-09 Winter Dew Tour. He claimed seventh place overall in the Dew Cup standings without even competing in the second stop.
After watching fellow countryman and best friend Xavier Bertoni win gold at the 2009 X Games, Rolland achieved the same feat the following year. Already known as a progressive skier, Rolland threw down a pipe-slaying run with a whiskey flip mute grab to alley-oop flatspin 360 to switch 720 to rightside whiskey flip to double cork 1260. It blew the minds of the judges and earned him a whopping 95.00.
In 2014, Rolland competed in freeski’s debut at the 2014 Winter Olympics, where he earned Bronze in halfpipe.
Rolland is regularly covered on all the freeski websites and you can check in with him and Bertoni on their own bi-weekly webisode series on FollowUs.tv.
