How do you say it? Is it eye-shod? Or, ee-shod? We’re almost positive it is pronounced ish-odd. Almost. However you say his name, Ishod Wair has left a serious impression on the skateboard world. The New Jersey native first started to creep into the contest scene around 2008, but in 2010 he decided it was time to dominate. That year Ishod won the Phoenix Am, Maloof Money Cup Am in DC and just barely missed the mark at Tampa Am where he finished second. The following year he went at it again with wins at Damn Am Atlanta and the AmsterDamn Am. In 2012 Ishod turned Pro for REAL Skateboards, but before then he had already beaten some of the best on boards with a win at Maloof Money Cup South Africa. The year after he turned pro he went ahead and took the title of Thrasher’s Skater of the Year (SOTY), a feat most pros have been working toward for the entirety of their careers and will likely never accomplish. Apart from his contest killing, Ishod keeps it REAL in the streets and stacks the footage to prove it. The year he won SOTY he dropped something like five video parts, and everyone was a face melter. Recently, in 2016 Ishod won TransWorld SKATEboarding’s Male Readers’ Choice Award and scored the cover of their March 2016 issue with a stylish boneless. Some skaters just have the gift, and we think Ishod is certainly gifted. Oh, and one more fun fact about his name that we can barely pronounce; it means “Black Man of Glory.” That is pretty heavy, but then again so is his skating. Thanks for doing what you do Ishod.
