Cody McEntire comes to the skateboard world by way of Texas, with all the southern amenities to prove it. For starters, his breakout video part was in the Digital Skateboarding video Smoke and Mirrors where he skated to the musical stylings of the one and only Lynard Skynard—a serious way to make an entry. From there you have his well-known nickname “Catfish” that portrays the image of fishing in some lost marshy bayou, however the nickname stemmed from a trip once upon a time where he slacked on shaving and grew some wild whiskers. As for his bag of tricks, that’s as Texas-sized as it gets. McEntire has a huge bag of tricks and he can take them anywhere from the streets to the coping of a quarter-pipe. Of course, the skateboarding world knew McEntire had what it takes to succeed after he won Tampa Am back in 2006. Still, it took another four long years before the deservingly talented Catfish earned his pro status in 2010. But for McEntire the “pro” title has never mattered much to him—he does it for the fun of it. That said, McEntire’s presence at recent Tampa Pro and Street League Skateboarding (SLS) events shows that he means business. To kick things off for 2016, McEntire finished third at the SLS Pro Open Barcelona event. Expect better and bigger things to come from this toothpick donning Texan.
