Mike Spinner used his first run of the day to claim the BMX park win at Chicago’s Nike 6.0 BMX Open. After barely making it out of the prelims on Friday, Spinner made good on his return to Dew Tour competition, making it to the top spot on the podium for the first time since 2007.

Twelve riders squared off for the first BMX final of the 2010 Dew Tour season, and despite Mother Nature’s best attempts to derail the day, the competition when down without a hitch.

Dew Tour regulars Daniel Dhers, Dave Mirra and Ryan Nyquist squared off against first-time finalists Andy Buckworth, Jeremiah Smith and Pat Casey, the 16 year old who made it to the BMX park finals in his first ever Tour appearance.

Garrett Reynolds showcased his usual technical prowess, laying down two clean runs and landing a 450 truckdriver straight into a 540 barspin and finishing his run off with a 360 bar-catch-bar. Dhers, who had a rocky showing at last year’s event in Chicago, displayed the same style of riding that won him three year-end championships and had a near-perfect second run that included a corked 720 no-hander and 360 double tailwhip the wrong way over the box.

Both Dhers and last year’s Dew Cup champion Reynolds came on strong at the end, but neither could top Spinner’s winning run. Just the second rider to drop in during the park finals, Spinner’s first run, which included his signature quadruple tailwhip and 1080, held up throughout the remainder of the competition for the second Dew Tour win of his career.
