Shaun White, Paul Rodriguez, and Jamie Bestwick Set To Compete In Dew Tour Toyota Challenge

The Dew Tour is coming to Salt Lake City and EnergySolutions Arena this week for the fifth consecutive year, September 8 – 11.  The biggest names in skate and BMX will be returning to compete in Skate vert and street and BMX vert and dirt.  The Toyota Challenge will also feature the Hart & Huntington Speed and Style, a freestyle motocross contest, followed by a concert by The Used on Friday, September 9.

The vert ramp will host a heated competition, as the skaters look to follow up on the drama of Ocean City.  Bucky Lasek will attempt to land on top of a Dew Tour podium for the third time this season, while Shaun White will draw on the skills that earned him a gold medal at this summer’s X Games.  Pierre-Luc Gagnon and Pedro Barros will also be fighting for points to put toward the race for the Dew Cup.  Crowds can expect a big performance from Mitchie Brusco, the 14 year old rookie who just might pull out his 900 for the competition.

Skate street follows a strong debut in Portland, featuring a newly designed plaza-style concrete course.  Paul Rodriguez will bring his effortless style and bag of tricks to Salt Lake City, hoping to repeat his recent first place finish.  It will be no easy feat against Ryan Decenzo’s ability to dominate any rail on the course and Greg Lutzka’s technical flips and grinds.  Manny Santiago, Theotis Beasley and Salt Lake native Adam Dyet will round out the competition, among others.

BMX dirt will make its second stop of the season at the Toyota Challenge.  Portland Invitational winner Dennis Enarson will attempt to continue his season on top, with 2010 Dew Cup winner Brandon Dosch and break-out star Kyle Baldock fast on his heels.  They will bring their top game to the new course, designed and built with BMX star TJ Lavin.  Jamie Bestwick has dominated the Dew Tour’s BMX vert ramp, winning the Dew Cup for six years straight.  He gained yet another first place finish in Ocean City, making himself a target for the likes of Simon Tabron, Steve McCann and other top names in the sport, as they vie for coveted Dew Cup points.

In addition to action-packed competitions, the weekend’s events will run into the evening hours on Friday, September 9 with an FMX Hart & Huntington Speed and Style contest.  The evening will kick off with a Pit Party at the course, where for $20 a pit pass can be added to any Friday ticket for the chance to hang with the riders, get autographs, barbeque and win raffle prizes. Friday Action Zone tickets include access to the Pit Pary.  FMX riders Carey Hart, Mike Mason, Ronnie Faisst and more will put on a spectacle of a show at 7:30pm, with a concert from Utah-based alternative rock band The Used closing out the night with a high energy set.
