Japan, Australia, China Advance All Skaters in Women’s Street Open Qualifier at Dew Tour Long Beach 2019

28 women from 14 countries competed, only 12 from group still in Olympic point-earning potential.

International energy broke in the new ledges, rails and stairs during the Women’s Street Open Qualifier at Dew Tour Long Beach 2019. Despite the valuable Olympic qualifying points on the line, the camaraderie among the ladies was clear by the endless cheers of support in every language.

A total of 14 countries made up the 28 woman roster for the event, and the sessions were broken out into three-minute jams with a maximum of three riders in each session. The ladies didn’t leave anything for chance knowing that their scores were based on overall impression and only the top 12 would continue to skate through to the weekend.

“It’s good. It’s different, but I know almost everybody here,” said Gabriela Peteira Mazetto, representing Brazil, when asked about the vibe of the event as an Olympic qualifier. “If I can go to the Olympics, it’s good. It’s my dream.”

Mazetto was able to advance with a seventh-place finish, as did her fellow Brazilian teammates. The entire teams for Japan and Australia also found their way through the Open Qualifier.
