Carlos Ribeiro wins Men’s Street Open Qualifier at Dew Tour Des Moines 2021

Brazilian skater Carlos Ribeiro led the charge in the Dew Tour Men’s Street Open Qualifier on Friday, taking the first of 21 spots to advance to Saturday’s Semifinal, where he’ll also face 11 pre-seeded skaters based on World Skate rankings prior to this event.

Open Qualifier scores were based on the best of two full-run scores, with six heats of skaters vying for those 21 transfer spots. Ribeiro’s Run 1 score in Heat 6 put him safely in that group before dazzling in Run 2 with a crooked grind 180, switch frontside bluntslide, kickflip, backside lipslide, switch backside Smith grind, and a switch kickflip backside lipslide that was among the biggest tricks of the day.

Ribeiro, 29, is originally from Novo Hamburgo, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He’s currently ranked #3 among Brazilians in the World Skate rankings and #16 overall. He’s a member of the Primitive Skateboards team and represented even though his boss, Primitive owner Paul Rodriguez, missed the cut for the Semifinal in 26th position in his first Dew Tour appearance in seven years.

Brazilians took 4 of the top 6 positions in the Open Qualifier, with Felipe Gustavo taking 2nd, Ivan Monteiro in 4th, and Edouardo Neves in 6th. Joao Lucas Alves, 16th, is also representing Brazil.

Felipe Gustavo briefly held the top spot in Run 2 with a frontside flip down the big stair set, a nollie frontside boardslide, kickflip crooked grind, switch backside tailslide down the Hubba ledge, and a nollie flip crooked grind.
