Andy Buckworth Rode Out on Top of BMX Park Semi-Final

BMX Park returned to the Dew Tour Beach Championships in Ocean City, Maryland and once again this discipline proved itself as a crowd favorite with packed grand stands pouring out excitement for the athletes.

 

The BMX Park Semi-Final format consisted of two heats of riders with twelve riders in each heat. Every rider was allowed three, 45-second runs with only the best run counting toward their overall. Riders were judged on overall impression and only the top ten moved on to the final.

In the first heat we saw riders Andy Buckworth, Harry Main and Ryan Nyquist blowing minds with their deep bags of tricks. Buckworth in particular went huge every run throwing tricks like tailwhip to downside whip right into a double backflip. Those tricks left Buckworth in the top spot after his heat.

Then, in the second heat we saw Drew Bezanson going off as well as with huge barspin 360s (truckdrivers) to kick off his run down the large step up on the course, backflip tailwhips and massive superman seat grabs to show some old school style.

At the end of the BMX Park Semi-Final Buckworth’s first heat runs held strong and he rode out on top with a tie score of 87 with Bezanson. In the event of ties, the next highest score decides who takes the lead. Buckworth will have the privilege of riding last during the final.

“For me, I just wanted to get top ten so I can be in the mix for finals,” said the humble but stoked Buckworth. “To come all of the way from Australia to be here riding with some of the best in the world is a great feeling. I guess today was just my day, it’s just the best feeling.”
