Scotty Lago Ranks First in Men’s Snowboard Superpipe Semi-Final

The Men’s Superpipe Semi-Final at the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships went off without a hitch with clear skies and calm winds.

The semi-final format consisted of 22 snowboarders, one of whom rose through the Free Flow Tour ranks, each taking two runs during a single heat with only their best score counting. With only the top ten elite riders moving on to the finals, and this being the only winter stop for the new Dew Tour, every rider came to throw it all on the line.

Scotty Lago was the man to beat as soon as he took his first run. Lago went big and was rewarded with a score of 92.75 locking him into the finals as the top qualifier. Lago landed a frontside 540, backside 900, frontside corked 1080, a cab 720 into an inverted frontside 900 nosegrab and capped his run off with a stylish backside air – nothing shy of insane.

Shaun White had a little trouble on each run with small squats on impact, but it wasn’t enough to stop him from scoring a 90.50 and second place in the semi-final. Rounding out the top three of semis was Greg Bretz, the Breckenridge local, earning himself a 89.00.

With the stacked lineup of riders set to go in finals, be excited to watch them on Saturday at 2p.m. ET either in person, via live stream on DewTour.com/live or on NBC – where a never-before-seen cable-cam angle will be showcasing the action!
